First Round of 2011

Pink Golf Balls

Oh happy day!!! It was finally warm enough to get out and enjoy the first round of golf for 2011!

My favorite golf partner (my husband) and I headed out this morning to one of our favorite courses ready to knock the dust off the clubs and have some fun.

The course we played – Meadows – is pretty wide open, has lots of trees, plenty of water hazards and is overall, pretty forgiving as courses go. The greens and tee boxes were still pretty rough and thanks to the recent weather, there were plenty of soggy spots on the course.

Hole #1 was a par 4 – I shot a 5 and I was feeling pretty good about the start of the season. We moved on to the second hole and again, I shot one over par – not too shabby considering I have not golfed since October. And then things returned to their normal, inconsistent self. Good drive, top the ball, top the ball, hit the ground, pitch too far and then nice putts.

I need to go take a lesson or twelve just to work on my “mid-game.” My drives are getting much more consistent and I had quite a few good putts, but that middle game is just not my strength – yet. I have decided that regardless of where my ball lands after the initial drive, that I might as well just pull out my 7 iron. It seems to be the only club I can hit with any consistency. My 8 iron and I just don’t get along. I don’t know what it is, but I just can not hit with that club for anything.

Memorable shots:

  • Hit a tree and got a lucky bounce back onto the fairway
  • Got a sweet cart path bounce that sent my pink golf ball up the hill towards the green instead of into the water

Balls lost:

  • About 4 to various water hazards

Favorite clubs:

  • Driver, Lucky #7 and my putter

Score:

  • Not good enough to share – yet ;-)

This statement is one that I can relate to!!! My 5 iron is my best friend in the fairway. My husband gets a little peeved at me and keeps saying it’s gonna disappear one day. He better not! haha

April – we all have our favorites! I think I am going to have to make myself practice with more of my clubs so I get more comfortable with all of them.
